Marc's Musings

A few words from the father of Nathan Charles Xu Hunter:
- First off, I miss my kids.  We got to see them on skype yesterday and I was able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing they are all alive.  How they stay alive without my help is beyond me???
- I am running on fumes.  I have had very little sleep because of the jetlag and a hard bed.  I miss my Sleep Number bed, setting #20, and US Eastern Standard Time!
- I have commented about the smog in Beijing and Changsha so many times that Joan has told me to "shut up about the smog."
- We have yet to see an American, European, or any westerner since we arrived in Changsha.  We are a freak show when we walk down the street.  Wait until it gets hot and I wear shorts!  Actually, I notice that most of the Changshaians are looking at Joan's pretty eyes!
- Last night we went to the fitness room and had a little workout.  There was a man in there with no shirt (a faux pas in US gyms), who didn't wipe off the equipment after he used it (another faux pas...).  I was glad when he left.  As I was doing my bridges on the floor I noticed something on the carpet just below me.  Yes, my "Gym Boy" left a big loogie on the carpet!  YUCK!
- Finally, today we went to the ping pong rooms on the 6th floor...yes, rooms set aside for ping pong only!  Pretty cool.  Well, after watching some of these guys play I realized that I would be in serious trouble if I played one.  Well, you guessed it, I was invited to play...with one caveat - I had to hold the paddle correctly.  I couldn't use the Western Standard Hunter Grip that I use at home when I crush Drew, Noah and Jacob (and anyone else that dares to take me on!).  Within a minute I quickly realized I was in over my head.  In the 2-3 minutes that I played, this guy that looked like he was carrying an innertube around his waist, slaughtered me.  If we were keeping score, I think it would have been like 15-0, and trust me...HE WAS TAKING IT EASY.
- Did I say I missed my kids (can't wait to get home and show them what I learned in a Chinese ping pong room!)?
- Pray for our day tomorrow when we pick up Nathan.

  1. Hey Marc:

The Ducks started slowly and did not score in the first quarter for the first time all year. I think it was Number 1 ranking jitters. They were up at halftime but still not clicking. I think it was 18-6. Then a quick turnover and it was 18-13. The Huskies looked all fired up and Chip Kelly looked annoyed. And then: the explosion. Some LaMichael runs, some really impressive Darron Thomas runs, some 3 and outs for the Huskies. Some great punt returns and...suddenly it was 46-16 and the network actually switched to another game since there was no more drama at Autzen.

Bad news, the backup quarterback blew out his knee (again) so now if Darron Thomas gets hurt....

Good luck today. We are thinking of you two (three).

    Love,
